ABOUT US
On October 21, 2010 we became Big Brothers Big Sisters of Waterloo Region bringing together Big Brothers Big Sisters of Kitchener-Waterloo and Area and Big Brothers Big Sisters of Cambridge. Both organizations have a longstanding history within their respective communities – 47 years in Kitchener-Waterloo and 39 years in Cambridge.
Big Brothers Big Sisters of Waterloo Region offers mentoring programs to children, ages 6 to 16, who face cultural and socio-economic marginalization in the areas of academic, relationship skills, peer to peer as well as social and life skills. Children in our community based programs are primarily from single-parent families or extended families, while our school based and summer programs support children from a variety of family structures.
Our programs are child centered and are designed to offer adult mentoring to children who do not have this resource in their lives.
Mentoring is about the power of friendship and having someone special that a child can spend time with and count on. Mentors help children grow into healthy adults by providing experiences that build character, self-esteem, confidence, new life skills, and an enhanced capacity to care for others.
